What a Day!

Bought this Hello Kitty Lunch box at Lot 1 yesterday when i was there to change money at the money changer shop. I was very excited as i had finally for my ideal Hello Kitty lunch box.

Yes! You are right. I'm intending to bring lunch to work everyday in order to save up more $$$. LOLxxx

This lunch box cost me S$15.90 and although i find it a little costly but at least its something i really like (motivation to bring lunch to work everyday mah) but who knows when i went JB today, a shop at city square was selling at RM19.90 and member can buy it at a special price of RM10.00. I couldn't believe my eyes when i saw it and have been grumbling since for the whole day. SO angry!

Actually for the past few days when i was looking out for a Hello Kitty Lunch box but to no avail, i did told myself that since i will be going to JB this weekend maybe i can try my luck there. Its was so happened that i managed to find it at a newly open shop in Lot 1 which is similar those Sanrio shop and the sales lady told me its original sanrio item. Therefore, i assumed that JB wouldn't have it, without hesitating i bought it down.

Felt a little cheated and not worth now, but since i bought it already there is no choice either. Just treat it as I'm supporting Singapore economy bah. keke...( just to comfort myself )

Thanksgiving Day 27.11.2008

Haiz... Today is Thanksgiving Day whereby i thought that its a day we are being thanks for our hard work but in return i got a bad news from my boss saying that from January 2009 onwards there might be a pay cut... Ooh no! what a big surprise for this coming new year... or should say this Christmas Seasons.

I'm kind of worrying now that my saving will soon dry up because salary is little than still got installment to repay, need saving for customary wedding, facial package and all my daily expenses. Therefore from now onwards i really got to save up more for rainy days.

Which means:
  • No buying of bag for this Christmas Seasons (I got myself branded bag for Xmas every year)
  • No expensive birthday gift for my hubby this years (which means just a dinner will do?)
  • No online sprees from now ( I'm overloaded with new clothing in my wardrobe)
  • KIV for overseas holiday (We are actually planning for trip to Taiwan again next February)
  • No shopping and buying of unnecessary things which i already have alot like sandals, body accessories, clothing, bag etc..

Got an email from my hubby for the Thanksgiving Day History

The Pilgrims who sailed to America were originally members of the English Separatist Church. Before going to America they had fled to Holland to escape religious persecution. Although, in Holland, they enjoyed more religious tolerance, but they eventually became disillusioned with the Dutch way of life.

In the hope of a better life in, they took the help of a London stock company to move out to America. Most of those making this trip aboard the Mayflower were non-Separatists. Only about one-third of the original colonists were Separatists.

They reached Plymouth in 1620. There, they had to face a terrible winter. Around 46 of the original 102 had died by the next fall. But fortune turned in their favor and the harvest of the next year was bumper. And the remaining colonists decided to celebrate with a feast -- including 91 Indians who had helped the Pilgrims survive their first year.

It is believed that the Pilgrims would not have made it through the year without the help of the natives. The feast was more of a traditional English harvest festival than a true "thanksgiving" observance. It lasted three days. Governor William Bradford sent "four men fowling" after wild ducks and geese. It is not certain that wild turkey was part of their feast.

However, it is certain that they had venison. The term "turkey" was used by the Pilgrims to mean any sort of wild fowl.

Another modern staple at almost every Thanksgiving table is pumpkin pie. But it is unlikely that the first feast included that treat. The supply of flour had been long diminished, so there was no bread or pastries of any kind. However, they did eat boiled pumpkin, and they produced a type of fried bread from their corn crop. There was also no milk, cider, potatoes, or butter.

There was no domestic cattle for dairy products, and the newly-discovered potato was still considered by many Europeans to be poisonous. But the feast did include fish, berries, watercress, lobster, dried fruit, clams, venison, and plums. This "thanksgiving" feast was not repeated the following year.

But in 1623, during a severe drought, the pilgrims gathered in a prayer service, praying for rain. When a long, steady rain followed the very next day, Governor Bradford proclaimed another day of Thanksgiving, again inviting their Indian friends. It wasn't until June of 1676 that another Day of Thanksgiving was proclaimed.

On June 20, 1676, the governing council of Charlestown, Massachusetts, held a meeting to determine how best to express thanks for the good fortune that had seen their community securely established. By unanimous vote they instructed Edward Rawson, the clerk, to proclaim June 29 as a day of thanksgiving.

It is notable that this thanksgiving celebration probably did not include the Indians, as the celebration was meant partly to be in recognition of the colonists' recent victory over the "heathen natives".

October of 1777 marked the first time that all 13 colonies joined in a thanksgiving celebration. It also commemorated the patriotic victory over the British at Saratoga. But it was a one-time affair.

George Washington proclaimed a National Day of Thanksgiving in 1789, although some were opposed to it. There was discord among the colonies, many feeling the hardships of a few Pilgrims did not warrant a national holiday. And later, President Thomas Jefferson scoffed at the idea of having a day of thanksgiving.

It was Sarah Josepha Hale, a magazine editor, whose efforts eventually led to what we recognize as Thanksgiving. Hale wrote many editorials championing her cause in her Boston Ladies' Magazine, and later, in Godey's Lady's Book.

Finally, after a 40-year campaign of writing editorials and letters to governors and presidents, Hale's obsession became a reality when, in 1863, President Lincoln proclaimed the last Thursday in November as a national day of Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving was proclaimed by every president after Lincoln. The date was changed a couple of times, most recently by Franklin Roosevelt, who set it up one week to the next-to-last Thursday in order to create a longer Christmas shopping season.

Public uproar against this decision caused the president to move Thanksgiving back to its original date two years later. And in 1941, Thanksgiving was finally sanctioned by Congress as a legal holiday, as the fourth Thursday in November.

Sentiments on my Solemnization 22.11.2008_Part 1

Yesterday was my 终生大事but老天真的是不作美, it started to drizzle at about 5:30pm just an hour before the cocktail receptions and there goes my outdoor solemnization. :(

At 5pm, I was doing my make up in the hotel room and saw from the glass window that the sky was suddenly being covered by a big patch of dark cloud. At that point of time, i started to pray in my heart hoping that the dark cloud was just passing by and clear sky could soon be seen. Yes! The sky was cleared in next 20mins but there comes the drizzling. Ugrhzzzz!

When Shavonne called me saying that the hotel staffs are packing up and venue would changed to the function room at level 3, i called Rebecca immediately to negotiate asking her if can grace us for another 20mins. I told her all the effort we have been putting in is just for today only. She agreed but the rain did not subside and become heavier.

I have come to accept the fate and though some of them told me that 老天是为我感动而流泪。I appreciate that knowing they are trying to comfort me. I really felt so upset, as that was our idea outdoor solemnization. However, i know that no matter what i have to 收拾心情 and get for my once in a life time big event. Everyone here is happy to see that we married.

I really want to say a big thank you to those who have been helping us that day. Just as i was worrying with the change to indoor venue which mean all the planning for outdoor solemnization need to be revised. I couldn't think much at that time as I'm still doing my hair and changing in the room. I didn't have the time to go survey the function room.

I managed to get down in time before the cocktail reception and was relief after sawing those decor and table set up in the function was nicely done up. Though we have to cancel the marching -out part as there won't be any theater seating due to space constrain, but the alternative plan of marching-in with the rose petals toss and confetti pop was really a romantic one too. Really thank you to the person who had made this alternative plan. If not there goes to the wastage of my rose petals and confetti pop.

All credits goes to Calvin, Mike, Wendy, Shavonne and Grace. They handle very well with the sudden change in the venue and had revised the agenda accordingly. We didn't have any briefing for the back up if its rain.

For the sisters, so sorry that you all have to pack up and do the re-displayed at level 3. I understand that you all had done up the reception table at level 6 just when it started to drizzle. I know that running up and down is tiring. Furthermore, you all still haven't change clothing and time is constrain. I'm really proud to have you all helping up. Thank you to Madeline too in creating the atmosphere to gather peoples to stand closer to us during the marching-in, I understand that if not, they would still be seating down and doesn't know what to do with those rose petals bag place at their chairs.

The changes made was for the march-in part and the rest of the ceremony runs smoothly according the the agenda. All things mentioned in the agenda are covered. But the only pity was that i didn't had the opportuniy to eat those food especially the dessert. I heard them saying that the cake is nice...and which is the cake.. i didn't tried at all. Sob Sob! But at least i still managed to eat 2 bowls of shark fin soup.

Yesterday i really couldn't resist myself and bought this pair of Chip n Dale plush toy ..keke..
I saw it at Far East Plaza 7-Eleven last Saturday. Really got an impulse to buy it straight away, but come to think of it i had just suffered from an internal bleeding after a big "Xue Ping" , so i decided not to buy but stood there and admire for a while. :(
I thought that i can forget about it, but when i come to office and saw those collection on my workstation, it really reminds me of that plush toy.. So as not to regret next time, i decided to try my luck after work at Yew Tee Mrt 7- Eleven. I bought it at last and felt so contented.
